Real Madrid fire four bullets past Lyon and take home three points

Real Madrid cruised to a  4-0 victory over Lyon in the Champions League after a dominant display at the Bernabeu with 63% of the ball at the final whistle. Possession was not all they had. They had goals as well...

Benzema is back! He started shower of goals in the 18th minute giving Real the only goal of the 1rst half. Benz is really becoming a thorn in the flesh of his former side. That goal came thanks to a brilliant corner by Ozil and a (spectacular) glancing header by Ronaldo. Ramos tried to claim the goal (all in good fun) as he attempted to poke the ball into the net. Bezema had him beat though.

Lyon went close when Briand dragged his shot wide of the far post after shrugging off Marcelo in one of Lyon's best chances of the first half before  Gomis levelled the score with a well taken volley... but was (rightly) flagged offside.

Real also had a goal disallowed on the half-hour mark when Xabi Alonso took a free-kick too soon and earned himself a yellow card in the process. The free kick was re-taken (Ozil) and Hugo Lloris showed Cassillas he has a new competition with a fantastic save to deny Real Madrid a second goal.

Jose Mourinho's side did not have to wait long to double their lead after the break when Benzema (unselfishly) passed a long ball to Khedira for him to score his goal for Real Madrid. (Yeah, I guess the pre-season one didn't count).

Ozil thought he had scored in the 55th minute (No, it's not another disallowed goal). Benzema linked up well with Marcelo who freed Ozil in the area. The Ozil tried to squeeze his shot under Lloris, but the goalkeeper made a mistake and the ball crept over the line for an own goal.

Ramos made it four when he lashed the ball into the back of the net from Kaka's corner ten minutes later.

Random Moments of Perplexity and Ambiguity

1. There were three disallowed goals including one for Ronaldo when Kaka(offside) deflected it into the net.

2. Ronaldo has now hit 4 assists in his last 4 games for the first time since his arrival... But has not scored in the last 4 games. His drought worries me. Málaga...¡Cuidado! The lion growls beware...

3. Ronaldo gets a yellow for a silly chalange.

4. Marcelo and Ronaldo exchange some beautiful tick- for-tack football... and then Marcelo's effort goes just wide of the far post.

5. Khedira gets injured by Pepe. I though Barca fans were joking when they said Pepe was reckless.

6. The recent fines on Mou for not wearing the official club suits have proved useful as he now he is beginning to wear nice, light Addias shirts. (In contrast to the thick, heavy famous black suit  that he wears at games rain or shine.) Which one do you prefer?

I wonder why people call me "the evil Mou"?

Boy, I hope I don't look TOO cuddly...

And the winner is...

Since we are talking about Mou, allow me to bring up what he said about Ronaldo's not scoring. Hopefully, it well calm us Cr7 fans a bit.

“Cristiano Ronaldo seems fine to me. I’m delighted with him. It would be a problem if he didn’t score and the team also didn’t win. It happened against Levante and Racing. He hasn’t scored in the last few games, but the team has, so it’s not a problem. I also liked to see him giving an intelligent and selfless performance tonight. He won the Golden Boot and the Pichichi last year and he wants to win things that are more important this season.”
Feel better?

Mou is talking to the media again. Yay(?). His pre-game press conference was the first in 6 months.

In summary, Real beat their old foes 4-0 with "the Benz" continuing to haunt his old side, tons of disallowed goals, and a speculated costume wardrobe change from "El Mister". The result keeps Real firmly at the top of Group D with three wins from three. Hala Madrid.
